I often tell clients that crafting key messages is the heavy lifting of a communication. And this episode of The Illumify Game Changer reveals part of the reason.
A leader sees beyond what is now to what could be. That’s a vast perspective that can be very different to anyone else’s. But unless the leader can help others see it too, there’s no chance they’ll help realize it.
Therein rests Jonathan’s dilemma. He’s literally written the speech in which he evokes his vision as a whole masterfully, as the professional speechwriter he is. So why would he want to break it into parts, or what I call key messages, the headlines of your communication.
I tell him why, and reassure him that he can do so without making his vision mundane.
Have I convinced him?
Time will tell.
